To kick off the long weekend we decided to have dinner at Blowfish in Blouberg, Table View on Friday evening. We have been to Blowfish before a couple of times for both lunch and dinner and we were in the mood for seafood so we decided to pay them a visit again. Here is my review of the restaurant.
I have to admit, I was a bit annoyed when we arrived and we had to stand around for a few minutes before someone showed us to our table – especially since the restaurant was not that busy. Once we settled in, we ordered a bottle of wine and some sushi starters from the sushi belt.
We shared a portion of Princess rolls as our starter and it was delicious – definitely something different. Even Pieter liked it and he’s not much of a sushi fan 🙂 For mains I had the green curry with prawns and Pieter the prawn pasta. My food was delicious but for the price of the prawn pasta you would expect a bit more prawns.
The service was not what we expected, but we were not in a hurry and there to relax so it wasn’t the end of the world. We had three different waiters before we ended up with the person that served us for the rest of the evening – we found this a bit odd. Our waiter also seemed to have to many tables to serve and we had to top up our own wine glasses. After we finished our dinner, we had to sit with our empty plates for quite a while before it was cleared.
All in all the food was okay, the ambience also just okay, the service not that great and the menu a bit on the pricey side for what you get. We will go back for their sushi and cocktails special during summer as they have a fantastic view of Table Mountain and the sea, but I’m not sure that we will go back for dinner anytime soon. It’s a pity as there are not that many great restaurants in the Table View / Blouberg area and Blowfish really can be that one seafood place that everyone goes to – especially now that Jimmy’s closed down. Overall I’d give Blowfish a 6/10. Have you been to Blowfish before? What was your experience like? Chat to me in the comments 🙂
