Question: How important is having a daily routine to you? I’m quite big on getting things done in a certain order and over the years I’ve tried out many different routines – from waking up earlier and working while no-one else is online, to going to bed later and getting up later. However, in the last quarter of 2016 I found my groove. I’ve realised that even though I can be super grumpy when I wake up, I am at my most productive in the morning. So now, we get up at 5am and I start working at 9am.
I’ve also realised that after 12pm, if something is still on my to do list and it’s not done – it probably won’t get done that day. This includes exercise, work, etc. I’m really not productive in the afternoon at all. So instead of trying to force myself to be productive in the afternoons, I keep this time for more creative work where I don’t have to concentrate. I also try to get exercise and other important stuff done early in the morning, before I even look at my computer or emails.
Over the next 3 months I’m trying out a new routine that includes exercise in the mornings as well as a more effective (or rather efficient) work routine. If you have any tips or thoughts on how to make the most of your day – let me know. I’d love to hear from you!
