It’s crazy to say, but the first month of 2017 is almost over. Scary stuff, right? Last year felt like it flew by in a blink and I definitely don’t want to get to the end of this year again thinking that I still wanted to do this or accomplish that. This leads me to why this blog post is titled prioritizing – I’ve had to learn to start every day by deciding what is important and what I want to accomplish on a daily basis.

There are only so many hours in a day and I know that I’m not that productive in the afternoon, so I make a list of what I want to get done and in what order I’m going to do it. For now, I’m prioritizing healthy eating, exercise, work and home / DIY projects (in that order). You may also have noticed that blogging is back on my priority list…this is my fourth blog post in one month!

I’ve always used an Excel spreadsheet to organize my to do list, and ordering tasks in a certain sequence is also an old habit but the last few months I’ve been putting time limits on tasks – not only work-related task but also things like getting ready in the morning, prepping food, making meals, etc. By knowing that I only have a certain amount of time per task, I find that I work more productive.

When I work, I don’t open Skype / Twitter / Instagram / Whatsapp / Snapchat or even my emails. All of these are distractions that break my speed (so to speak) when I’m busy with an important task. Plus, it’s so easy to procrastinate by checking social media or quickly responding to an email! Before you know it, another hour is lost. Since I work for myself, the faster I work through my to do list the more free time I have to do other things. This is definitely my motivation!

I’ve talked about making some lifestyle changes and so far, so good. I’ve read a very interesting book on nutrition (you’ll probably hear more about this in a future post) and I’ve implemented some of what’s discussed in the book while trying to be consistent with planning (and prepping) meals in advance. There is room for improvement, but I’m definitely finding my groove. If you follow me on Instagram you may have noticed that I’ve rediscovered my blender again and I’m going through a bit of a smoothie and iced coffee phase at the moment 😉
