Hi everyone! I hope you enjoyed a break over December to rest, re-group and get ready for the New Year 🙂 I have so many plans for this year and I have a feeling that 2017 is going to be my best year yet!
We did a road trip over December and 6 400km later, we are back home safe and sound. It was fun seeing everyone again and exploring the south of Namibia as well as the west and south coasts of South Africa as our road trip progressed. The holiday started with a wedding in Walvis Bay and ended on a high note in Kakamas with a braai with school friends at my parents’ house – just like in the old days 🙂
I know that most blogs will be inundated with 2017 resolution posts, so I’m going to keep this brief but I do want to let you in on what I’m planning.
One of the things that you will be seeing on the blog this year, is more DIY and home-related posts. Pieter and I have a house project plan in place (in Excel, might I add – yeah…we are both a bit OCD and really like our lists!) and hopefully by the end of this year our house will be ready and finished the way we want it to be. Some work already started last week, but at this stage it just looks like one big mess, so I’m not going to share photos just yet.
I am also going to be doing more recipe / food posts. I want to try one new recipe on a weekly basis and I will be sharing my successful recipes with you. This is actually a goal that I had for 2016, but never really got into the habit of trying new recipes. My food is very bland in general so I’m hoping that by trying new recipes I will be introduced to new techniques and tricks.
Lastly – and probably the biggest change I have planned – this year I’m making a drastic lifestyle change. For the longest time I have been telling myself that I don’t like cardio and exercise and healthy food, and we all know the saying – what you think, you become. So this year my focus is going to be on changing this mindset and living a healthier lifestyle. In short, I’ve actually decided that 2017 is going to be about me taking care of ME.
Step one of this plan actually started this week – cutting out all refined carbs and sugar – as well as alcohol. I’m actually pretty good when it comes to my meals during the week, but my downfall is weekends (hello chips and cheese platters and bread!) and also alcohol consumption. This sounds bad, but it’s because it is! Wine is empty and unnecessary calories and if I’m honest, just a bad habit. I’m so used to pouring that glass of wine or unwinding with a beer, so it’s just going to take some time to get used to not drinking alcohol to unwind or in social situations. I want to lose some weight and once I reach my goal weight I’ll probably reintroduce some wine to my diet, but I think I’ll decide that once I get to that point. So you can expect more healthy recipes on the blog, fitness-related posts on Instagram and Snapchat as well as updates on my progress.
