I love summer…especially now that we’re on leave and the days are our own to do whatever we want to do. No early morning alarm that needs to be set, no sitting in traffic to get to the office (Pieter, not me), no work deadlines – nothing, nada. Most holiday plans involve some sort of beach or pool activity and boy oh boy – if (like me) you picked up a bit of weight, then a bikini is the last thing you want to wear.
I bought my first one piece swimsuit a year or two ago and I love that it covers up my tummy. I also need a swimsuit with some sort of bust support, and I find that most bikini tops are cut too low and you constantly have to check that ‘everything’ is still where it should be.
When I spotted this mint green one piece at Checkers Hyper, I had to buy it. I can’t remember the exact price (I think it was R169.99 – definitely below the R200 mark) but it’s one of my favourite recent bargain finds. The pleated top area adds an interesting detail to an otherwise boring swimsuit, and the mint green colour is just oh so summer perfect.
What I’m wearing: Sunglasses from Roberto Cavalli / Cover up bought at China Town / Swimsuit from Checkers Hyper
I love this kimono-style cover up. I bought it a couple of years ago at China Town and with its closed frontside it’s perfect to wear over a swimsuit for a bit more of a covered look. It’s a chiffon type of material, so it’s see through but it shows just enough without making me uncomfortable. I’m in such a weird headspace at the moment. I weigh more now that I ever have, but for some reason I’m very comfortable in my skin.
When I weighed 15kg less – I was so conscious of my body and the way I looked – back then I would never dream of doing a swim suit / beach type of look post. I also didn’t want to wear white skinny jeans because it makes me look ‘fat.’ I’m not saying I’ll do a full on bikini-let’s-show-it-all shoot, but I’m definitely more in a ‘who cares’ kinda space. Wearing white skinny jeans? Tick. Doing a swimsuit look post? Tick.
That being said, I didn’t really follow through on the healthy eating / start exercising plan, and it’s something that I’m going to make a priority in the new year. I’m pretty sure ‘losing weight’ is on most people’s goal list for the new year, so once we’re back to work it’s time to get into a routine again. But right now I’m not going to feel guilty about eating cake or pasta or drinking beer. Have fun, you only live once! 🙂
