If you’re looking for a picnic spot in the Cape Town area, you have to visit the Warwick wine estate. We attended Warwick’s media picnic day on Sunday and even though the weather was a bit chilly, the experience was fantastic. I have never been to Warwick’s wine estate before even though I love their wine. We were greeted by this sign as we walked in, very fitting don’t you think? This is definitely my type of forecast 😉
TOP PICNIC SPOT IN CAPE TOWN
To kick things off we were served some of Warwick’s award winning wines. Their First Lady is one of my favourite red wines and I think their wooded chardonnay, the White Lady, is going to be my drink of choice for this coming summer. I love a wooded white wine and the White Lady is crisp and refreshing.
The tables for the media event was set up in the Forest Courtyard, and this is where we enjoyed our drinks before Shani and I went on Warwick’s famous ‘Big Five’ wine safari. The wine safari was definitely a first for me and very interesting and informative. We sat right at the back of the Land Rover so I didn’t manage to take nice photos while we were out on the safari. If you want to do a Big Five Wine Safari while you’re at Warwick, I suggest you book in advance to avoid disappointment.
Once we got back, Lawrence (the front house manager at Warwick) took us to our picnic spot where he explained each item in the picnic basket. How pretty is the picnic basket? Definitely not your traditional looking, boring picnic basket!
This was our view from our picnic spot – how gorgeous is the scenery? We don’t picnic that often but if I had to recommend a picnic spot to someone, Warwick will definitely be my top picnic spot in Cape Town.
WHERE TO PICNIC IN CAPE TOWN
Each gourmet picnic basket have two Ciabattas, as well as all of the above. Yummy right?! There were also two prosciutto, melon, bocconcini and basil skewers that I didn’t take a photo of as well as a cheese box will mature cheddar, brie and some meat. The picnic baskets are VERY generous – there is more than enough food for two people as a lunch (or brunch). Each gourmet picnic basket is priced at R350.00 per basket and you will get all of the above. Not badly priced at all!
There are a few different picnic spots, some more private and secluded than others. Especially on warm summer days it can get quite busy so book your picnic basket and spot in advance by calling 021 884 4410 or sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
I have to give it to the Warwick team – they ‘get’ social media. I’m invited to a fair amount of events and it’s very rare that the team will let you know beforehand what the hash tag for the event is – or even send you directions to get to the function venue. The Warwick team treated us like royalty, and I for one had a blast. We will definitely be back, every single thing in the picnic basket was delicious but I’m TOTALLY sold on the cheesecake!
