Learn to make shoes with Lara from Luli Pulani

Last week I attended the launch of the Mr and Ms clothing line at Smitten Home & Gifts, and as part of the event we made our own shoes. Lara Collinson is the creative brain behind Luli Pulani and she led the shoe-making workshop.

No, we didn't make these - Lara did ;)

The work area and all the sponsors of the event, we received an amazing goodie bag

My final choices in material – a tan brown leather for the outer lining and a printed material for the inner lining. I also decided to make a round-toe pump instead of a pointed toe pump.

The next step is to cut out the leather based on the pattern provided and to then glue the outer lining to the inner lining

The final product – from here it goes to the studio where the sole and stitching will be finalised

In about two weeks time we will pick up our pumps from Lara’s studios in Bree Street. This was such a fun event! I specifically decided to go with a neutral and sensible colour for my outer lining so that I can wear it with most of the items in my wardrobe. How cool will it be if someone compliments you on your shoes and you can say you made them yourself?

If you’re a maid of honour or bridesmaid in the Cape Town area and you’re looking for a unique and creative idea for a kitchen tea or hen’s party – why not do a shoe-making workshop with Luli Pulani? Especially if the wedding is an outside wedding – all the attendees can make their own shoes incorporating the colours of the wedding in their inner lining and they can wear their pumps to the wedding. That’s pretty cool right?

Visit Lara’s Facebook fan page for her contact details or to request a quote. Also take a look at her shoe range, there are some gorgeous shoes.
