The holiday of a lifetime

We arrived back in Cape Town Wednesday morning after an idyllic week in Kenya. It’s difficult to adjust to the fact that a few days ago I was wandering in not much more than a bikini and drinking ice cold cocktails, and now I’m dressed in winter clothes and wrapped in a blanket as I type this post.

Cape Town, please bring summer back!

This post is not named ‘holiday of a lifetime’ for no reason. I guess I’m biased, each couple probably thinks that their wedding and honeymoon was the best but hey, that’s okay. Our honeymoon was a great experience and definitely one of the best holidays we’ve had to date. We stayed at The Cove Treehouses in Diani Beach in Kenya and we were pampered and spoiled every day of our stay. Initially we wanted to go to Croatia or Venice, but I’m so happy that we settled on Kenya.

The Cove has six treehouses, and ours had a magnificent view of the beach and ocean. Look at that bed…does it not just scream “honeymoon”? 😉 Each treehouse has it’s own jacuzzi and also a nice spacious deck.

The pool and pool bar at The Cove

The pool at The Cove has a great view of the beach and also has a pool bar. We spent A LOT of time there. The weather in Kenya was much warmer and more humid than what we’re used to, and the pool provided much needed cooling off.

Some of the things we did while in Kenya

When we were not swimming, we explored the ocean and the close by town. We snorkeled in a few different places, took long walks on the beach, did a deep sea fishing day trip, had massages, went shopping at the local markets and just spent time relaxing.

If you’re looking for a honeymoon destination or just somewhere to go for your next holiday, I can highly recommend The Cove. Albeit a bit pricey, the service is top notch and the food to die for. Each breakfast is started with a plate of the freshest fruit and then you can choose between a couple of options (omelettes, english breakfast, yoghurt and muesli, etc). Lunch is selected from an a la carte menu and dinner is a four course meal prepared on recommendation from the chef. The Cove’s chef makes THE BEST soups – our favourite is his carrot and ginger soup. I got the recipe and I’m going to try and make it soon, it’s amazing.

However, if you prefer a more ‘commercial’ holiday spot with entertainment during dinner and more people around you, The Cove is not the place to go. Other than us, there was one other couple during the whole week we were there. There is no entertainment during dinner and for us, that is what made it the perfect honeymoon spot. You get to spend quality time with each other. Another plus point for us was that no kids are allowed (unless you book out the whole place).

Now it’s back to the grindstone in full force. Things at Twenty3Media are moving fast (which is great!) and 2013 is definitely going to be my best year yet. We got married, had an awesome wedding, my business is doing very well, Pieter is finishing his Master’s degree this year and we have exciting things lined up as part of our ‘5 year plan.’ There’s nothing like a good holiday to get you motivated for the rest of the year. On that note, I have work to do (and wedding photos to go through ;)). Have a good weekend peeps!
