Putting together your wedding’s music playlist

The last few weeks I have been going through our music library, asking friends for their song requests and searching the internet for the top songs from 2000 onwards. The result is a wedding playlist that I am quite happy with, but it’s far from complete. During my research I noticed that there are not many suggestions out there for wedding playlists so here is my two cents – hopefully it will help at least one other bride to be 🙂 I love dancing (Pieter not so much…) but we agreed that our wedding reception will be a party and have loads of dancing. I’m a bit of a control freak so we are DJ’ing our own wedding… we’ll see how that goes.

I’m still putting together a list with slow dance songs and I will share those at a later stage. Here are some suggestions for faster, party songs to heat up the dance floor. They’re some of my top favourites 🙂

  • Born this way – Lady Gaga
  • Rumour has it – Adele
  • Locked out of heaven – Bruno Mars
  • Sexy and I know it – LMFAO
  • We found love – Rihanna
  • Edge of glory – Lady Gaga
  • Switch – Will Smith
  • Ice ice baby – Vanilla Ice
  • Pon de replay – Rihanna
  • Scream and shout – Will.I.Am ft Britney Spears
  • Single ladies – Beyoncé
  • Mambo #5 – Bob The Builder
  • World go round – Busta Rhymes ft Estelle
  • Dirty dancer – Enrique Iglesias ft Usher
  • S&M – Rihanna
  • We are young – Fun
  • Americano – Lady Gaga
  • Buttercup – Mean Mr Mustard
  • Get this party started – Pink
  • Only girl – Rihanna
  • Sexy chick – Akon

For the Afrikaans speaking brides, these are some of my must-play Afrikaans songs:

  • Doen die sexy hoender – Marulaboom
  • Stukkie van der Merwe – Pieter Smith
  • Klein Tambotieboom – Heuwelsfantasties
  • 54 5de straat – Eden
  • Is ek nie die een – Jay
  • Kaptein – Kurt Darren
  • Soos bloed – Theuns Jordaan

Putting together your own wedding playlist is a MASSIVE task so start early. I started a few weeks ago and still have three weeks left to finish the list but I’m warning you – it’s a lot of work. Sifting through all your music, diving it up into different genres, deciding what is going to play when…it’s daunting BUT also a lot of fun. If you have any song suggestions, please let me know in the comments – suggestions are very welcome. Happy dancing! 🙂
