Seeing that most South African stores are already stocking up on winter items, I guess it’s time to start thinking about cute outfit ideas for autumn and winter 😉 I haven’t started shopping for winter clothes yet but I have seen so many gorgeous coats, tops, boots and more in shops. Today’s gloomy weather in Cape Town is also perfect for a winter outfit inspiration post so let’s look at some of the latest fashion trends and the key trends for winter 2013. FASHION TRENDS AND OUTFIT INSPIRATION FOR WINTER 2013
CAP TOE SHOES
The cap toe shoe trend has been around for a while and we’re going to see much more of it this winter. The trend has evolved to include interesting colour combinations, like beige flat pumps with neon yellow cap toes. I prefer a more subtle cap toe like these from Legit below, the colour is perfect as you can mix and match it with basically anything.
It seems as if leopard print is not going anywhere soon. The print featured heavily on runways, and in shops you can find basically anything in leopard print. I like leopard print but in a more chic, understated way. If you’re not keen on wearing leopard print pants or a leopard print top, try a leopard print scarf. It’s an easy way to incorporate this trend with your current wardrobe without breaking the bank. I’m so happy I bought this grey blazer with leopard print lining last season, what a great bargain!
SHADES OF PINK AND CORAL
Coral was a hot colour for summer and it’s going to be no different this winter. My favourite way of bringing this trend in with your wardrobe is with coral coloured skinny jeans. There are so many different shades available, check out Woolworths or Mr Price for budget friendly options.
This is one of my favourite colours…it’s incorporated in my business’ logo, StyleDiary’s logo and it’s the main colour of our wedding. Obsessed much? 😉 Regardless, I’m very happy that red is featuring high on the trends list for winter 2013. I already own a pair of bright red skinny pants and a red scarf, as well as a red bag. Guess I’m sorted for this trend!
A couple of years ago (maybe more like 10 but anyway) pointy shoes with bell bottom jeans was the outfit to wear. How I wish I didn’t throw all my pointy shoes out when a new trend came along! Anything pointy toed will work this winter – flats, heels and even boots.
Not that I think coats will go out of fashion any time soon, but this is one area that you can really invest in. A good quality coat with a timeless cut can last you a lifetime, so be prepared to spend money on it. This winter I like the idea of a longer length coat, so mid calf compared to knee length. A longer length black coat is high up on my winter shopping list!
If you ask my fiancé he’ll probably say that I have enough shoes to last me a lifetime, but a lady can never have too many shoes! Same with boots 🙂 Last season I invested in good quality leather boots (both brown and black) – both pairs have heels. This winter I’m going to be shopping for dark brown flat leather boots (riding boots style). They’re versatile and the same as with a good quality coat, if you buy the right pair (and with proper care) they can last forever.
No matter what the season, accessories is always your friend. In summer it can be bangles and statement earrings, but this winter invest in scarves, hats and bags.
These are my top trends – what are your favourites? Let me know in the comments. Hopefully this post has shown you how to wear some of winter 2013’s top fashion trends and also gave you some fashion inspiration for your next shopping trip 😉 Happy shopping peeps!
