Dresses to wear to a wedding this summer

A couple of weeks ago I went shopping for a new dress as we had a wedding the following weekend. One afternoon after work I tackled Canal Walk’s shops, determined to find a nice summer dress. The wedding was in Kakamas (my home town) and unlike Cape Town it’s already summer there – I’m talking about 33C / 35C weather.

I took photos of all the dresses and tried on. I have to admit, after the third store I wasn’t in the mood for trying on any more dresses so I didn’t try on as many as I wanted. Here is my trying-on journey.

stuttafords shift dress

My first stop was Stuttafords. I liked the sequens detail on this shift dress but the shape wasn’t very flattering.

coral wrap dress stuttafords

Another dress from Stuttafords, this one I really liked. The colour is great (especially against a tanned skin) and the dress can be dressed up for an event or down for over the weekend.

mint green lace dress

A mint green lace dress from Cotton On. A great colour (again, if you’re nicely tanned) but for me it wasn’t suited for a wedding.

illusion dress black and blue

This illusion dress (also from Cotton On) is such a great dress for clubbing / an evening out. Hot!

coral yde dress

Another coral coloured dress, this time from YDE. The dress is flowy and very summery, but was too short for my liking. To be honest, most of YDE’s dresses were too short for me but then again, I am quite tall so that might be the issue.

royal blue yde dress

This was a really gorgeous dress. The colour, the cut, the pleats. I think it will make a great bridesmaids dress!

peach coloured yde dress

A peach coloured dress from YDE – waaaayyyy too short for me.

green yde dress

One word – short! Gorgeous colour though 🙂

what to wear to a wedding

After all the shopping I ended up wearing the dress above. I forgot that I have it, I bought the dress at Zara while in Italy earlier this year and packed it away. Pardon the blurry photo, it was taken late at night after the wedding (I forgot to take outfit pics before / during the wedding…). I wore my hair up to show off the dress’ one-shoulder and pleat detail, and wore long silver drop earrings. I opted for flat shoes as 1) the wedding reception took place outside and 2) I planned on dancing a lot.

If you’re looking for a dress to wear to a wedding or other special occasion, I hope this post will help you find one. Happy shopping! 🙂
