Trying on wedding dresses

On Saturday my future mother in law, my sister and I spent the day visiting a couple of bridal boutiques to try on wedding dresses. It was fun and as silly as it may sound, trying on (what feels like a gazillion!) dresses is tiring…Some of those dresses are really heavy.

My sister took some photos while I tried dresses on, and here are a few of the dresses that I liked but not loved. I did find one dress that was gorgeous and it’s definitely high on my list of options. (Don’t worry, the photo of the dress is not here…you’ll have to wait until our wedding day for a photo of the actual dress ;))

The first boutique that we visited was Lady Marmalaide in Stellenbosch. I loved the bodice of this dress, it’s very slimming with gorgeous detail.

The front of the dress, it’s pretty but not exactly my style

This dress is from The Wedding Box in Somerset West. I absolutely loved the one-shoulder top and bodice, but the skirt was a bit too frilly for me.

Another dress from The Wedding Box, love the bejeweled waist band.

A few tips:

  • Most boutiques require that you make an appointment so be sure to call first, don’t just show up.
  • Some of the more exclusive boutiques charge for fittings (they’ll tell you how much when you make your appointment) so take some cash.
  • If you already have wedding shoes, take them with you – you might just find THE dress!
  • Try on different types of styles just to see how the different dresses look on you. Take guidance from the consultant but if there’s a specific style that you like, be sure to tell her.

If you have any tips for finding the perfect wedding dress, please share them in the comments section below – I’d love to hear from you. 🙂
